Brake drum:

The brake drum should have sufficient strength, stiffness and heat capacity, and should have a higher friction factor when combined with the friction lining material.

The brake drum has two kinds of casting and combination. The cast brake drum is mostly made of gray iron, which has the advantages of easy mechanical processing, wear resistance and large heat capacity. In order to prevent the deformation of the brake drum when it is working, the ribs are often cast on the outer circumference of the brake drum to strengthen the rigidity and increase the heat dissipation effect. It is complex and difficult to calculate the thickness of brake drum accurately, so it is often selected based on experience. The thickness of the brake drum wall is 7 - 12mm, and the freight car is 13 - 18mm.

The cylindrical part of the combined brake drum can be cast out with cast iron, the web part is stamped with steel plate, and the alloy cast iron castings made of centrifugal casting can be set on the inside of the brake drum of the steel plate, and the brake drum is assembled, or the main body is cast with aluminum alloy and a layer of pearlite inlaid with grey cast iron is used as the working face. The combined brake drum is characterized by its low quality, high wear resistance and high friction coefficient.
